Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and customer-focused Customer Service Operator to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring safe, efficient, and courteous interactions with the public while maintaining the integrity of landfill operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that combines indoor clerical work with outdoor operational duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to Inquiries: Provide information via phone, email, or in person regarding disposal policies, billing, collection schedules, and solid waste services.
- Customer Assistance: Direct residents and businesses to appropriate disposal areas and assist with waste segregation protocols.
- Gatekeeping & Load Screening: Monitor facility entry points, weigh vehicles, inspect loads for prohibited items, and enforce safety and disposal regulations.
- Payment Processing & Record Keeping: Process payments accurately, balance cash drawers, and maintain daily operational records and logs.
- Problem Resolution: Handle complaints or concerns professionally; coordinate with dispatchers, drivers, and other departments to resolve issues.
- Clerical Duties: Perform administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and utilizing CRM software and office systems.
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Proven customer service experience, with professionalism in stressful situations
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in transactions and documentation
- Basic math skills and comfort handling cash or credit transactions
- Familiarity with CRM software, Microsoft Office, or similar systems
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or with a team
- Knowledge of local solid waste regulations is a plus
- Ability to work in variable weather conditions and interact respectfully with the public
Work Environment
This position involves both indoor office work and outdoor duties at the landfill or transfer station gate. Candidates should be comfortable with:
- Standing or sitting for extended periods
- Exposure to outdoor elements and heavy equipment noise
- Occasional interactions with upset or frustrated individuals
