Schedule: Full-Time (School Year Calendar) Mon-Fri *am-2pm
Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) serves a diverse community of learners and is committed to equity, inclusivity, and accessibility for all students. We are seeking a dedicated American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to support our students, staff, and families by ensuring full communication access across academic and extracurricular settings.
The ASL Interpreter provides interpretation and transliteration services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, as well as for staff and families, in accordance with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and ACPS guidelines. This role supports equitable participation in classroom instruction, school events, and community engagement.
Provide real-time ASL interpretation in classrooms, meetings, and school activities.
Ensure communication accessibility for students, families, and staff who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Adapt signing to match student language levels, communication preferences, and educational needs.
Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and administrators to support student learning goals.
Maintain confidentiality in compliance with FERPA and professional ethical standards.
Serve as a resource for staff in understanding deaf culture and communication needs.
High School diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred).
Valid ASL Interpreter certification (such as VQAS, RID, or EIPA 3.5+).
Demonstrated fluency in ASL and knowledge of deaf culture.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Prior experience working in an educational setting preferred.
